2006 Southeastern Michigan Cub Scout Rodeo - September 24th
The team once again will participate in this worthy event.

The Essex Brass Cycling Team played a supporting role in the
2nd annual Special Olympics State Cycling Finals. Approximately 70 Special Olympians from around the state of Michigan traveled
to the General Motors Technical Center in Warren to showcase their skills, fitness and a love for cycling in a competitive
format.
There were 20 events on the schedule ranging from 500m, 1k, 5k & 10k individual time trials, a 5k road
race, a 3k tandem road race and last but not least a 250k tricycle time trial. The course was flat and featured two 90
degree corners and two 180 degree corners. The weather could not have been better for the athletes as the sun shown bright
and air temperature in the mid 60s.
There was a common denominator between all these Special Olympians.........they
had hearts of champions and a spirit of determination that would make a pro cyclist envious. Not all received the gold,
silver or bronze medal, but all were winners in their own right. It was a great day for the Essex Brass Cycling Team as
well, supporting these athletes in their triumphs was an absolutely touching experience.
2005 North Trails District Cub Scout Bike Rodeo
The Essex Brass Cycling Team had the rewarding experience of being involved in the North Trails
District Cub Scout Bike Rodeo. The weather was perfect as an estimated 200 youngsters gathered to earn their cycling patch.
The Scouts were subject to 12 unique stations where they would have to demonstrate basic bicycle skills. These sections included:
mounting/dismounting, stopping drills, turning drills, balance drills, weaving, street intersections, crossing driveways and
street course maze. In addition to the riding drills, Team Essex Brass was instrumental in providing safety inspection, bike
maintenance, bike fitment and adjustment, flat tire repair instruction and bike safety tips. The team was rewarded by many,
many smiles from boys who were happy to have air in their tires, working brakes and properly adjusted drive trains. The parents
were equally as happy knowing that the boys (many who have paper routes and ride to school each day) had been subjected to
a comprehensive bicycle safety and maintenance program.
